Coffin Shopping

Here’s an excerpt from a great article about coffin shopping written by Bruce Watson from the blog WalletPop. Click on the link below to read the full article.

"When I was in high school, I took a class titled "Death and Dying." In addition to learning about the grieving process and reading afterlife narratives, my class studied the ins and outs of the funeral industry. We inspected coffins, read Jessica Mitford's The American Way of Death, hung out in graveyards, and wandered all over a local funeral home. By the end of the semester, my classmates and I were experts. We knew all about the psychology of death, had studied the death industry scams, and were armed for combat against any undertaker who was stupid enough to try and pull a fast one on us. Even so, the first time that I helped plan a funeral, I was completely overwhelmed."

Who Will get My Diamond Ring?

A will is arguably the most valuable document regardless of age, money, or circumstances.

When my husband and I went to do our will, I had one thing on my mind, my engagement ring. It is very important to me that my daughter receives my ring. That feels so strong in my heart. It’s now stated in my will, my wish will be granted. Maybe someday she will give it to one of my grandchildren, it doesn’t matter what she does with it as long as I know she has it. That feels very good to me and it only took as approximately 1 hour to sit down with our lawyer and make things right.

A will directs decisions, designates guardians for children and distibutes property and assests. Whether handwritten, or fill-in-the-blank variety or drafted by an attorney, make sure a will meets state requirement and you get one done. It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. Change happens and they really should be updated every 2 years.
