My mother passed away this winter and I already have a gravestone but need to have her death date etched on the stone. Do you do that?
Yes, Rogan's Memorials did approximately 300 cemetery lettering dates last year, ranging from Millinocket, Ellsworth, to Machias. The first thing that you need do is fill out the contact page on our website www.rogansmemorials.com or call us 207-942-2210 with the information consisting of Name, Date, and cemetery.

Once the order has been placed we try to guarantee it to be done in 4-6 weeks.  Please note that weather plays a huge role in getting our work done.  Condition for sandblasting the lettering into a stone requires the monument to be dry and warm and that is not always in our favor.

Can I buy a monument when there is still snow on the ground?
One third of our business is done in the months of April and May for people who are looking to have their stones set by Memorial Day.  If you are in hopes to get your stone in by Memorial Day we encourage you to come to our shop anytime - snow on the ground doesn't stop us from getting the design and monument picked out.  Once we have the order then you are at the top of the list to get it set once the snow has gone.

Saving Money by Pre-Planning

ist2_2617349-sad-young-girl-at-the-graveyard-prayingPreplanning your funeral is a wise choice, for more than one reason. It not only prevents your family from the stress of making your funeral arrangements after you die, but it can also be a wise move financially. You don’t have to pay ahead of time; in fact, that may not even be the best choice. But if you plan your purchases ahead of time, it can save a significant amount of money. How? Well, first of all, when you preplan your funeral arrangements, you have the time to look around and compare prices. There aren’t any standard prices for funeral services; prices vary from one funeral home to another, and funeral homes are required by law to give you pricing lists of the items and services they offer.

Coffin Shopping

Here’s an excerpt from a great article about coffin shopping written by Bruce Watson from the blog WalletPop. Click on the link below to read the full article.

"When I was in high school, I took a class titled "Death and Dying." In addition to learning about the grieving process and reading afterlife narratives, my class studied the ins and outs of the funeral industry. We inspected coffins, read Jessica Mitford's The American Way of Death, hung out in graveyards, and wandered all over a local funeral home. By the end of the semester, my classmates and I were experts. We knew all about the psychology of death, had studied the death industry scams, and were armed for combat against any undertaker who was stupid enough to try and pull a fast one on us. Even so, the first time that I helped plan a funeral, I was completely overwhelmed."
